Keep Hope Alive

I think I speak for all Cowboys fans when I say that we’re one of the most delusional fan bases in all of sports. We haven’t won a Super Bowl in 20 years but yet every season since, the unified assumption is “This is the year. This is the year when we win it all.” And time after time, and only three playoff wins later, we still hold onto hope that we’ll win the Super Bowl.

Delusional defined by the dictionary means: having false or unrealistic beliefs or opinions. But delusional can also mean something else entirely when it comes to rooting for your favorite sports team. Delusional simply means you’re being a good fan.

This season has made me as delusional as I’ve ever been. Call me crazy but even after this seven-game losing streak, I don’t think this season is over just yet.

I won’t lie to you. Directly after the last game vs. Tampa  Bay I was ready to throw in the towel. But after the rest of the games yesterday, I was reminded of something. This division is awful. The Cowboys still have a chance in the NFC East. It’s a slim one, but they have a chance.

Lets take a look at the standings:

While 3-6 would’ve been ideal, 2-7 isn’t a death sentence. The Cowboys are only 2 GB of the Washington Team and the Eagles. And only 2.5 GB of the Giants. Nobody has run away with this division. With only seven games left the task is not going to be easy. But one silver lining, the Romo is back! The Romo is undefeated this season and the Cowboys will need him to continue his winning ways in order to have a chance in the end. The road to a possible playoff berth is a tough one but it can be done.

Lets take a look at the rest of the schedule for Dallas:

The Cowboys should be able to go to Miami and get a win.

Then in a short week, they play on Thanksgiving against Carolina. Carolina also plays the Sunday before Thanksgiving against Washington. Hopefully they win that game and use all of their energy on Washington. Dallas plays in the Thanksgiving game every year, but Carolina does not. Hopefully the short week will mess with their psyche and the Cowboys will give them their first loss of the season.

Then it’s off to Washington on Monday night. it’s primetime and it’s time to shine. This is a very winnable game.

Then it’s off to Lambeau. The Cowboys and us fans have not forgotten what happened the last time Dallas went to Green Bay. The Cowboys have to deal with some demons from last postseason and this win will be very satisfying. But they can’t get happy with these four wins in a row.

The Jets come to town on a random Saturday game. The Cowboys will need to focus and take care of business but if they play to their full ability this game should not be a problem.

Next is Buffalo in Buffalo and i’m a little worried about this one. Buffalo in December is rough. It will be extremely cold and possibly snowing so the elements could play a factor.

Finally it comes down to the last game. It seems like it always does. A division game against that Washington Team. Will the Cowboys be able to beat them at home and ride a seven-game win streak into the playoffs?

It’s all laid out right there. This is what needs to happen in order for the Cowboys to have a chance. They also need a couple of losses from New York and Philly but it can be done. It would be crazy if Dallas lost seven in a row and then won seven in a row and made the playoffs. But crazier things have happened. Or have they? This may just be the craziest. It’s a definite possibility but, hey, what do I know? I’m just a delusional Cowboys fan.

Don’t give up Cowboys fans. Keep hope alive!
