The Second Place Texas Rangers

It’s been awhile since we’ve talked Rangers baseball so lets do it!

The Rangers overall record currently sits at 35-30. That record is good enough for 2nd place in the A.L. West and trailing the division leading Houston Astros by three games.

Rangers vs. Astros!

Last season the Texas Rangers were decimated by the injury bug and it seemed as if this season was going to have a similar story.

List of key injuries this season:

– Yu Darvish out for the season

– Derek Holland out since opening day (expected to return soon)

– Martin Perez out for the season

– Jurickson Profar out for the season

– Adrian Beltre on the DL

– Josh Hamilton on the DL

– Neftali Feliz on the DL

– Delino Deshields on the DL

– Nick Tepesch on the DL

– Matt Harrison on the DL

Wow.

Give as much credit as you can to Jeff Bannister. He’s kept this team afloat with the absence of many of his key players and the men in the dugout have rallied behind his leadership. It seems the Rangers magic is back and the players are having fun on the field again.

A lot of players have been playing well including Prince Fielder, who has had an all-star caliber year at the plate for Texas, but the most enticing storyline of the year thus far has been the emergence of Joey Gallo.

The rookie sensation performed well early but has fizzled as of late. His batting average is down to .222 but he has notched 5 HR’s and 10 RBI’s since his debut.

Gallo is 21-years-old and at times plays like it. But his raw ability and baseball instincts are unquestioned. This man is going to be a player and with Beltre and Hamilton out a little while longer, he’ll be needed.

With baseball being one of the only major sports going on at the moment, there will be a lot more Rangers talk posted to JBrightSports. Stay tuned.

You’ve got that Bright!
