The Mean Green dominate Mustangs 43-6

apogee stadium

Apogee Stadium was filled with a sea of green this morning as the UNT Mean Green destroyed the SMU Mustangs 43-6.

The game was never in doubt as the Mean Green dominated the ground game racking up 245 rushing yards compared to SMU’s 8.

Let me repeat. UNT out ran SMU 245 to 8.

Last week the Mustangs lost as they were supposed to, to a great Baylor team 48-0 but they weren’t expected to lose this week, and especially not by this margin.

One word to describe SMU’s football program this year so far.. Embarrassing.

They almost got shutout in back to back games and would have in this game but they scored on the very last play with a 33-yard touchdown pass.

SMU is now 0-2 and searching for answers.

UNT on the other hand bounced back from a pretty embarrassing loss last week to Texas and showed why they might just be the real deal.

UNT pounded the Mustangs on the ground all day and the UNT defense was very impressive for the second week in a row.

The Mean Green defense allowed 274 total yards but they also forced 5 turnovers. Including a 31 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Jarrian Roberts.

Trevor Moore the UNT kicker was also impressive. He went 5/5 on the day, including a 47-yarder.

Going Forward

SMU was supposed to be a test to see where this team was and UNT just crushed them. Going forward I think UNT will have to learn how to get their passing game going in order to be effective in conference play. While more impressive than the 15 yards they posted last week, the 108 this week were less than impressive against a terrible SMU defense.
