The Boys’ drafted offensive lineman Zack Martin over Johnny Manziel. – Good Pick
The Boys’ also picked up Devin Street, WR from Pitt. – Good Pick
These were the only two offensive picks of the draft. The rest of the draft was spent on defense. – Good Choice.
They picked up great depth and players that actually looked like football players. No more of these developmental projects from small schools this year.
Draft Grade – A-
I give that grade because they weren’t ready to pick at 16. The Boys’ tried to trade up and get LB Shazier from Ohio State but they couldn’t afford the move. Then they wanted to trade back at 16 because of the Johnny Manziel frenzy but no one bit on that. They ended up with “one heck of a football player” but they could’ve had even more picks of value in the draft.
The picks were as follows:
Round 1, Pick No. 16: Zack Martin, OT, Notre Dame
Round 2, Pick No. 34: Demarcus Lawrence, DE, Boise State
Round 4, Pick No. 119: Anthony Hitchens, LB, Iowa
Round 5, Pick No. 146: Devin Street, WR, Pittsburgh
Round 7, Pick No. 231: Ben Gardner, DE, Stanford
Round 7, Pick No. 238: Will Smith, LB, Texas Tech
Round 7, Pick No. 248: Ahmad Dixon, S, Baylor
Round 7, Pick No. 251: Ken Bishop, DT, Northern Illinois
Round 7, Pick No. 254: Terrance Mitchell, CB, Oregon
