The Playoff-Bound Mavericks

Dallas, Tx — The Dallas Mavericks needed to win tonight to earn a playoff berth for the 2014 season. And they did just that. Beating the Phoenix Suns 101-98.

The game didn’t lack drama, as it was neck and neck the entire way. The Suns were also fighting for a playoff berth but they just didn’t quite have enough in the end.

Monta Ellis stole the show and scored 37 points and the Mavs needed every one of those points. He was in attack mode from the start of the game until the end. He also played great defense on Suns star Goran Dragic who was 6-18 from the field and only scored 13 points.

Dirk Nowitzki got out to a slow start and only had 2 points by halftime. He picked it up and scored 21 points in the second half for a grand total of 23 points. He also added 8 rebounds.

*What’s next*

The Mavericks have one more game to go against Memphis on Wednesday night. With a win they clinch the 7-seed and a first round match-up with the Oklahoma City Thunder. With a loss on Wednesday the Mavs could slip into the 8-seed and would play the first-place Spurs in the first round.

For the Mavs now it’s really just pick your poison.

*Interesting Stat*

The Mavericks won the season series with the Thunder 2-1.

Go Mavs!
